Rowing Club – General Information
The Juneau Rowing Club was formed in 2003 primarily through the efforts of Matt Kirchoff and Toy Campbell.  The goal of the Club is to promote rowing to provide an opportunity for healthy exercise and competition for the people of Juneau.  The Bylaws of the Juneau Rowing Club are available for all members to see by clicking on the following link: Bylaws.  Members are invited to attend regularly scheduled board meetings, and member meetings, to suggest different, better ways of conducting Club Business.

2010 Updates
Updated April 9, 2010

Spring Open House
The spring open house will be held on May 15 from 11 am to 4 pm.  Come down to the Juneau Rowing Club floats at the north end of Aurora harbor to learn more about the Juneau Rowing Club, and for a chance to learn basic rowing techniques. You may take a club boat out for a row, and get some basic coaching on your technique.  Reservations for a time slot are recommended and may be made by calling Rocky Holmes at 789-0937.  Drop-in lessons will be provided on a first-come first-served basis as time permits.

Gastineau Challenge Regatta
The Regatta will take place on July 24. This is our annual summer regatta, open to rowers of all ages and abilities. We’ll run two races, one for woman and one for men. Heats will begin at noon, and all rowers should be at the rowing club dock at least one hour before start time. The course is 1000 meters long. The finish line is the end of the sailing club’s dock in Gastineau Channel. Commemorative T-shirts will be for sale, and refreshments served.

Round the Breakwater Head Race
The Round the Breakwater Head Race will be held in late summer/early fall (date to be determined).  This race is a circle of the Aurora Harbor breakwater, with an approximate length of 500 meters.

SPACE ON ROWING CLUB FLOATS
Annual rental fees for space on the rowing club floats are due July 1. Fees are either $300 or $175 per year, depending on which float you are on. Current space holders have first dibs, but we expect a few spots to open up (assigned first come, first served). Having a place to store and launch your shell on the water makes a huge difference in the amount of use it gets.  When you pay your rental fees, remember to include your car license plate number so that you can receive a harbor parking permit.  If you'd like to reserve a space on the floats for your rowing shell, please contact club treasurer, Colleen Sullivan.
